This program is one of a number of community-based interventions designed to introduce rapid development changes in poor, remote areas of Nepal. The principal goal of the program is to address the interrelated problems of rural poverty and social exclusion. The program supports efforts to empower poor and disadvantaged people throughout the country and improve their living conditions and livelihoods. Various efforts were income generation based on local potentials and priorities, promotion and development of financially viable savings and credit groups as community-based financial institutions, and sustainable economic use and management of natural resources such as forests and water resources. Groups that traditionally have been marginalized for reasons of gender, ethnicity, caste and location are the focus of the program. The pilot phase was first implemented in Ward No. 7 and 8 of Neelakantha Municipality of Dhading and then extended to an additional area.
